Dwarf, repainted over the years

Repainting the same character throughout the years.

So I was sifting through years of old paintings and got motivated to paint another dwarf for fun this time after seeing an old file where I repainted a dwarf with a few years between (bottom row)

It has been a while since I just sat down and painted a characters face and enjoyed myself. I am very happy with my improvement after 3 years of teaching art and (ironically) not really upkeeping my skills. Self progression! Its important to look back every now and then and see where you have come from. A big change here is I started drawing around a year before I started teaching. before I would only paint paint paint. And so my lineart, design, and a whole group of fundamentals were totally ignored. You can see my shift in thinking - before I thought just painting over the same guy with better values/colours/light = better art. In this new version I redid everything because I realised the stuff I really needed to tackle were entirely different things.

If anyone cares to share some feedback or a paintover please feel free - there is still some frustration I couldn't quite push it further.
